Is an Amplifier Necessary?
It's expensive! Do I have to have it?
An amplifier may not be necessary for your specific situation. If, you can take your GotW3 router outside and it gets great signal, then you probly don’t need an amplifier. Your home or office is causing the interference and just adding the outdoor antenna will remove those variables.
However, if you’re looking for the maximum boost to your GotW3 router, definitely get the bundle with the amplifier.

Which Outside Antenna is Best for You?
Outside antennas are used to capture and transmit cellular signal. An outside antenna not only will be able to remove the interference you home is causing, but it put you in the best position to grab the most cellular signal.
The Ultimate Signal Bundle has three core components.

What you need to know is that the power of the antenna can significantly affect the power of the signal you end up bringing to the amplifier. So, a more powerful outside antenna set up correctly can significantly increase the performance of your bundle.
What Types of Outside Antennas are There?
Outside antennas come in two types. The omni-antenna and the directional (yagi) antenna. They Come in either 50 Ohm or 75 Ohm models.
When it comes to 50 Ohm or 75 Ohm, It;s all about two things: length and power. Cable are measured by impedance, how much resistance there is to the flow of electrical energy. A 50 Ohm cable produces much better results that a 75 Ohm cable for boosting cellular signal. 75 Ohm RG6 coax cable should only be used with 30 feet max length before the signal loss begins to reduce the benefits of the antenna. It is our opinion that just using the 50 Ohm Low Loss cable gives the best results regardless of length. Within reason of course.
Both omni-directional and uni-directional antennas pull in the existing cellular signal. Both increase the power of the signal upon pulling it in, but the extent to which that happens varies depending on the type.
Omni antennas catch signal from a 360 degree field, and do not discriminate. They will catch any signal that exists, whether you want it or not. This is great if you have several cellular towers close by.
Directional antennas are much more specific. They catch signal from 45 degree field more narrow and even more precise.. This allows for a more precise and powerful signal to reach your amplifier.
The more rural you are, the more directional you’ll want.
Omni-Directional Antennas
The best thing about an Omni-Directional Antenna is its installation. All you need to do is mount it somewhere with a strong signal. Easy peezy.
PROS:
- Easy installation.
- Will amplify all cell signal in your area, from multiple carriers with different cell towers in multiple locations.
- Great at boosting 4G LTE, and 3G signal when building material is the main reason you’re suffering from poor reception indoors.
CONS:
- Doesn’t reach as far as a directional antenna.
- Doesn’t give as much gain to your incoming signal as a directional antenna.
- Susceptible to “signal noise” and can become overwhelmed in extremely busy urban areas.
- Not optimized for rural areas where distance from the cell tower is the main problem.
Uni-Directional Yagi Antennas
The yagi antenna is the most prefered type of uni-directional cellular antenna. They are more advanced than omni antennas. Its best to mount the yagi directional antenna high on a building or wall, the higher the better.
The yagi dorectional antenna has a 45 degree field of view. This concentrated field of view allows the yagi antenna to reach out further to pull in the cellular signal. Up to 3x as far as an omni antenna while also giving higher gain to the signal being pulled in.
PROS:
- Up to 3X more powerful than an omni antenna.
- Works well for people in rural or suburban areas.
- Great for boosting 4G LTE and 3G signal when distance from the cell tower is the biggest problem.
CONS:
- Some installation is required. The antenna needs to be pointed in the right direction in order to be effective.
- Needs a tiny bit of technical know-how to find the right cellular tower and make sure your pointing directly at it.
Which Antenna Should I get?
If your surrounded by towers, go with the omni antenna.
If you’re in a location where the cellular tower is far away, get the yagi directional antenna. It takes a little more effort, buts its worth it.
